GUIDE · COMPARISON

Backlit poster or LCD screen / digital signage?

A screen and an illuminated frame do different jobs. We compare them honestly so you can choose the tool that suits your venue and budget.

01

Two different tools

An LCD screen in a digital signage system displays digital content: videos, animations, several graphics in a loop or live data. An illuminated LED frame shows a single printed poster, evenly backlit from behind.

An LEDMESEE frame is not a screen and does not play video. That is exactly why in many places it turns out to be the simpler and cheaper choice.

02

When to choose a screen

A screen makes sense when content has to be dynamic and someone in the business will manage it.

  • The content changes many times a day or depends on the time, e.g. separate breakfast and lunch menus.
  • You need motion: video, animation, scrolling messages.
  • You manage a network of locations and want to change content remotely, from one place.
  • You display live data, e.g. queue numbers or timetables.
03

When to choose an illuminated frame

  • Lower purchase cost: you pay for the frame and the print, with no media player, licences or software.
  • No content system: no playlists to plan, no apps to update, no internet connection to monitor.
  • No software failures: the frame simply lights up when connected to power.
  • Simpler electronics: just LED backlighting and a power supply, with no computer running all day.
  • Graphic changes in seconds: slide the old poster out, slide the new one in, no tools needed.
  • Print-quality photos: even, halo-free backlighting and vivid colours.
  • Slim profile: 12 mm for the single-sided model, 14 mm for the double-sided and 11 mm for the horizontal.
04

Three questions that will settle the choice

  • How often do you change the content? Once a week, month or season — a frame is enough. Several times a day — consider a screen.
  • Who will manage the content? If you have no one to run a system, the frame needs no attention beyond changing the poster.
  • What should catch the eye? Motion is the domain of screens. A large, striking product photo is better shown on a backlit poster.
05

A frame and a screen can work together

Many venues combine both solutions: a screen with dynamic content in one spot, and illuminated frames where a permanent, elegant display matters — by the entrance, in the window, above the counter or in the corridor. The budget then goes where motion on a screen is really needed.

If you are still testing whether illuminated advertising will work in your venue, start with one frame in the most important spot, such as by the entrance or the till. After a few weeks you will easily judge whether it is worth expanding the display.

How to order — step by step

You do not need to know about advertising or printing. You just need to know where the frame will hang and what you want to show on it.

  • Measure the space and choose the artwork format — you will find tips above.
  • Choose a model: single-sided for the wall, double-sided for the window, horizontal above the counter or with a power bank for the table.
  • Prepare your artwork or describe what you want to show — we will help you choose the right backlit print.
  • Order a frame and print at shop.ledmesee.com or send a photo of the space via the contact form.
  • Hang or stand the frame, connect the power and slide in the poster. You change the next graphic in seconds.
