Christmas shop window: 10 ideas with a backlit poster

In December it gets dark before 16:00, and the streets see the most shoppers of the year. A backlit window works for you then — as long as it has one clear message.

Christmas shop window: 10 ideas with a backlit poster

Start with one message

The most common Christmas window mistake is clutter: fairy lights, stickers, several price tags and a poster with tiny text. A passer-by has 3 seconds. Choose one offer per week — a gift, a set or opening hours — and show it big, bright and short.

A backlit poster in an LED frame is the brightest point of your window after dark. Let decorations surround it, not cover it.

10 ideas for a Christmas shop window

  • An advent calendar in the window: a new daily offer on the poster.
  • Gifts at one price — selected products with a clear photo and price.
  • Gift sets ready to take off the shelf.
  • Gift vouchers with a big headline and a QR code to buy online.
  • Holiday opening hours on a separate, easy-to-read poster.
  • A double-sided frame: an offer for passers-by outside, information for customers inside.
  • A series of posters you change every week — customers come back to see the new one.
  • A product photo in a festive scene instead of generic graphics with stars.
  • A poster for gift wrapping and delivery services.
  • Straight after Christmas comes the sale — prepare the poster early.

When to change posters

A 4-week plan works best: end of November — Black Friday, first week of December — gifts, second — sets and vouchers, last week before Christmas — opening hours and last-minute shopping. After 25 December switch straight to the sale.

Changing the print in an LED frame takes a few seconds: slide the old poster out through the slot and slide the new one in. So you can change your offer every week without dismounting anything.

How to design a Christmas poster

  • One headline of 5–7 words, readable from 3–5 metres.
  • A dark background with a bright product — after dark the backlight brings out the colours.
  • Price or benefit in the largest font after the headline.
  • A 10 mm margin from the print edge for important elements.
  • File at 1:1 scale, 150–300 dpi, saved as PDF or JPG.

Pre-season checklist

  • Frame size matched to the glass and viewing distance.
  • A power outlet by the window or a cordless frame.
  • 4 posters planned for the 4 weeks of December.
  • A poster with holiday opening hours.
  • A poster for the post-Christmas sale.
